Build It’s very own Self Build Education House, located at the Graven Hill self build development in Bicester, Oxfordshire, has been shortlisted for a national award!
We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for RICS Social Impact Awards 2020, which aim to recognise the built environment’s positive and transformational contribution to society.
Designed by Build It magazine and lapd architects as a unique informational and inspirational hub, the Build It Education House is a pioneering real-life project that gives visitors a unique insight into the process of creating their own bespoke home.
Self build has the potential to have a transformative impact on UK housing, offering better design, better quality and more choice to the millions of people across the country who want to own their own home – but don’t want to live in an identikit box.
The Built It Education House will empower more people to create a value-for-money home – whether as part of the Graven Hill community or further afield. Our goal is to make self building a normal, mainstream and affordable choice by providing transparency about every step of the journey.
Through detailed informational graphics and interactive demonstration, visitors to the Build It Education House gain access to a wealth of valuable information to help them create a home that suits their needs, tastes and – crucially – their budget, thanks to in-depth cost advice
Visitors can see and interact with the building fabric, materials and products that went into the creation of the Build It Education House – from the ICF walling system that enabled a cost-effective basement, through to the latest innovative energy efficient heating and ventilation options.
